Amid the seriousness of the coronation, leave it to Prince Louis to provide a dose of comic relief. Throughout the historic affair, the five-year-old delighted viewers with his number of expressive moods—especially his many yawns.
By all accounts, Louis was remarkably well-behaved—this was a long day for everyone, especially for children—as were the rest of his siblings. However, cameras couldn’t help capture the little Prince as he navigated the historic ceremony. During the two-hour service in Westminster Abbey, he was spotted holding hands with his sister Charlotte, yawning, as well as whispering with her in the pews.
Then, it was time for a carriage ride through the streets of London. While he tried his best to smile and wave to the crowds—gesticulating with both his hands—he also couldn’t help but yawn some more as they made their way to Buckingham Palace.
When it was finally time to appear on the balcony for the highly-anticipated flyover, Louis could be seen slapping his hands against the railing in excitement. When the aircraft did zoom past, he appeared to cheerfully yell. (“Didn’t Prince Louis just steal the show?” an NBC News correspondent summed up in their broadcast.) At one point, he even pointed out the helicopters in the sky to his parents.
Many royal enthusiasts and members of the public have an affection for Louis after he put forth some (entirely age-appropriate) antics during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, which included sticking out his tongue at his mother, the then-Duchess of Cambridge. (“We all had an incredible time, especially Louis,” his parents joked on social media about the weekend.)
