The 23-year-old, who last played for India in July 2021, was recalled in the India T20I team for a series against New Zealand earlier this year. However, he did not get a chance in the playing eleven.
The Mumbai batter had a forgettable IPL 2023 season in which he scored 106 runs in eight matches at an average of 124.70. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill have moved rapidly ahead of him over the last two years.
“When I was dropped [from the Indian team], I didn’t get to know the reason. Someone was saying it could be fitness. But of course I came here [to Bengaluru] and cleared all the tests at the NCA, again scored runs and again came back to the T20 team. But again didn’t get a chance in the West Indies. I’m disappointed but you just have to move forward,” Shaw has said in an interview with Cricbuzz.
Prithvi Shaw has seen his name dragged in a number of controversies over the years. Only this year, a social media influencer had a public altercation with him. The video of the incident in which Shaw’s car was attacked had gone viral. Shaw was out with his friends late at night when the incident took place.
Shaw has said that he doesn’t have a lot of friends and has also stopped coming out of his house to avoid any kind of unwanted trouble and gossip. He said he has started enjoying being alone.
“As a person, I just like to be in my own zone. People say a lot of things about me. But those who know me, know how I am. I don’t have friends, I don’t like to make friends. I’m scared to share my thoughts. Somehow all of it comes up on social media. I’ve very less friends, only a couple of friends, and even with them I don’t share everything, only a few things,” Shaw said.
“If I go out, people will harass. They will put up something on social media, so I prefer not to step out these days. Wherever I go, trouble follows. I’ve stopped stepping out altogether. These days, I’ve been going alone even for lunches and dinners. I’ve started enjoying being alone now,” he added.
The talented batter was recently seen playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2023 final. He top-scored for West Zone in the first innings with 65 runs off 101 balls. Shaw has also not found a place in the India squad for the Asian Games.
