Priyanka Chopra just debuted dramatic “chocolate-dipped cherry” highlights

Red hair, and all its various iterations, is currently enjoying a moment in the limelight. But Priyanka’s ‘chocolate-dipped cherry’ highlights – a rich medley of chocolate and red hues that are so smoothly interwoven they look like a cherry partially coated in dark chocolate – are wonderfully sexy. Not only that, but they create dimension and movement so it’s not a flat colour all over.

According to Stacie Costello, colourist at the Larry King salon in London’s Notting Hill, Priyanka’s twist on traditional brunette hair is a masterclass in looking polished. “Chocolate-dipped cherry highlights allow brunettes to keep the depth of their colour while still enjoying some light-reflective rich tones that will flatter most skin types,” Stacie says.

As for what to ask for in the salon? “If you’re already brunette, ask your colourist to paint on highlights and gloss them with a deep cherry tone, adjusting the level to suit your particular skin tone,” advises Stacie. By seamlessly blending the brunette and red shades together you avoid unsightly stripes and “play with going lighter – but without the commitment or the typical honey-blonde highlighted look,” she adds.

As ever, Priyanka has set the bar high with her multi-tonal, chocolate-dipped cherry hair. But assuming you don’t have your heart set on dull skin this winter, we’re here for a hair colour switch that leaves the face quietly glow-y.
