UFC: Paul takes aim at White over McGregor fight

Other professional boxers have been accused of being “jealous” of Jake Paul’s recent success in the sport.

The YouTube star has made a significant rise in the sport having won his five professional fights against the likes of former UFC stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

He has also drawn new eyes to the sport generating bumper paydays for himself in the process.

UFC legend Chael Sonnen believes several boxers have been poor at “self-promotion” and are yet to offer real challenges to the rising star.

“‘He should fight a boxer’, that’s a quote,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “That is a quote said by everybody that wants to bury [Jake] Paul.

“Not one goddamn person has said a name. And the reason is, you don’t know them. Boxing has done a terrible job. Boxers do a terrible job with the self-promotion.

“They look at Paul and they are jealous instead of looking at Paul and going, ‘Oh my goodness, this is what I need to do. This is what I should be doing.’

“Cause we can just keep throwing out the term, ‘a boxer’, we can say it till we’re blue in the face or we can tell the truth. We don’t know who they are.”

Paul is looking for his next opponent after securing a brutal KO victory in his rematch with Woodley earlier this month.

However he will first take a break from the sport after fighting four times in eighteen months, going on vacation with his partner Julia Rose.

The YouTube star has previously been accused by female star Claressa Shields of “stealing” opportunities from other boxers who have a natural background in the sport.

Calls have sounded frequently for Paul to face a ‘real’ boxer in the future after his fight with British fighter Tommy Fury collapsed after his withdrawal with a broken rib.

Despite questionable attitudes to his career from many in the sport, Paul is confident he can become a world champion within ten more fights and has called out a number of opponents.

These include the likes of MMA stars Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal in addition to boxing’s pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez.

Sonnen continued by stating that the call-out of MMA fighters by Paul represents good business and can attract huge viewing figures during his career.

“Dana’s guys are under contract with Dana,” Sonnen continued. “The end! There’s nothing else to talk about here.

“Paul knows that, Paul’s not thinking, ‘I can get under Dana’s skin and I can do just enough to just drive him crazy and make him send one of these guys.’

It’s not going to happen, Dana’s not going to do him the favour, he’s not interested, and it has nothing to do with Paul, Showtime, and anybody else – Dana has never done that.

“His policy is very simple, it’s very straightforward but it’s also very consistent. “Why does Paul keep doing that? I don’t think that you got to put on your Columbo rain jacket to figure this out.

“It’s because he gets a response. It’s very good for business.”
