PSG beaten at home for first time in league this season

Arnaud Kalimuendo has scored against his boyhood club as French league leaders Paris Saint-Germain were beaten 2-0 by Rennes in their first home loss in the domestic league this season.

The win ended PSG’s 35-match unbeaten run in the league at the Parc des Princes and increased the pressure on coach Christophe Galtier.

PSG were booed off at half-time by the Parc des Princes crowd after Toko Ekambi broke in behind to hand Rennes a surprise lead.

Things quickly went from bad to worse for the disjointed leaders, with Kalimuendo converting Lesley Ugochukwu’s cross to provoke more fury from the home fans.

The 21-year-old Kalimuendo joined PSG’s youth system when he was nine but signed with Rennes last summer looking for more playing time away from the armada of PSG stars. He had spent the last two seasons on loan at Lens.

Rennes, who moved up to fifth, needed goalkeeper Steve Mandanda’s decisive saves from Kylian Mbappe, who was twice sent clear by Lionel Messi.

Out of the Champions League and the French Cup PSG have just the league title left to focus on. They remained nine points clear of Lens though Marseille could cut that to seven points later on Sunday if they won at Reims.

Patrick Kisnorbo’s Troyes drew at home 2-2 to Brest, their second draw in three matches following a run of five defeats.

Ahead twice they were denied a first win since 2 January by Romain del Castillo’s 74th-minute penalty. Troyes remain in the relegation zone, three points from the last safe spot occupied by Brest.

Elsewhere, Wissam Ben Yedder scored his 80th career league goal for Monaco in a 2-0 win at 10-man Ajaccio keeping the Principality side fourth.

It was Ben Yedder’s 17th league goal this season. The France striker put the hosts ahead in the 26th minute before Krepin Diatta sealed Monaco’s win with seven minutes left.

Ajaccio was forced to play with 10 for most of the second half after Cyrille Bayala was sent off for a reckless tackle on Caio Henrique.

Montpellier’s revival under coach Michel Der Zakarian continued as the Mediterranean club came from behind to beat Clermont 2-1 while Nice were held to a 1-1 draw by Lorient. Strasbourg beat Auxerre 2-0 to move three points clear of the relegation zone.
