Six Paris Saint-Germain stars have reportedly complained to president Nasser Al-Khelaifi about comments made by Kylian Mbappe in an interview with the French media. Mbappe fuelled speculation that he could leave the club this summer, appearing to suggest that he would not win the Champions League with the Parisians.
The 24-year-old attacker’s contract expires in 12 months’ time and he has previously suggested that he would stay for the remainder of his deal. However, PSG do not want to lose their star player for free, six years after paying an eye-watering £165million for the then-teenager.
Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in the France captain, who has now appeared to suggest that he could depart for a team that he believes can win Europe’s biggest club tournament. Mbappe told France Football: “Reasons to believe it [that I could leave]? I’m a competitor, when I play, it’s to win.
“And no matter who I play with, no matter what shirt I wear, no matter where I play, no matter the year, I’m never satisfied, I just want to win. I’ll never be satisfied. I want to win the Champions League.”
Speaking about PSG’s struggles in the Champions League, he added: “I don’t know what PSG are missing to win the Champions League, it’s not a question for me. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organise the squad, who build this club.
“I just try to do my job as well as possible. I was the best player, top scorer for the fifth year in a row in Ligue 1. Sometimes in football you face what is called a glass ceiling. That’s why it’s not a big question for me, it’s for those at the top.”
According to Sky Sports, six players have now reportedly complained to president Al-Khelaifi about the quotes. Reportedly, two of them have only joined the Ligue 1 champions this summer.
In a developing war inside the PSG camp, Mbappe’s latest comments do not appear to have gone down well. His team-mates might have believed that they were going to be playing with the prolific forward next season, or be keen for the rift between the player and the club to be resolved.
