A SCOTS pub has hit back at a French tourist who left a scathing one star review on TripAdvisor after being dress-coded for wearing “inappropriate trousers”.

The unhappy visitor took to the page to complain that they had been turned away from George IV Bar, in Edinburgh, for wearing trousers that went against the dress code.

The disgruntled customer, who went by Jo on the site, explained that she and her husband had looked forward to trying delicious food at the pub last month after hearing good reviews about the place.

But after her husband arrived wearing black Kappa tracksuit trousers, the couple were turned away at the door.

The diner said how they were left “disappointed” after not getting let in – adding that they should have been told about the clothing policy when she spoke to them on the phone earlier in the day.

They wrote on the online travel company site: “My husband and I are from France and for a first night in Edinburgh, we really wanted a nice pub where we could eat food and listen to music at the same time.

“The place was very well noted and the food looked delicious so we tried to get in.

“My husband was refused at the entry by the security guard that deemed his pants ‘inappropriate for a restaurant’.

“These are thin sport pants yes, but we’re tourists, we’re not supposed to know about some clothing policies, especially for a pub that is supposed to be popular, and most of all my husband’s outfit was overall very correct.

“I want to add that I tried to call the pub earlier on in the evening and didn’t manage to get anyone, too bad, maybe someone would have told me at that point that there was a clothing policy.

“Very disappointed and I definitely won’t recommend.

“We’re currently eating at a pub that don’t have live music, too bad for us, but at least we are welcomed and we’re eating well”.

Bosses from George IV Bar hit back at the customer in a response to the scathing review.

They explained that they, like most other bars in the city, don’t accept this style and type of outfit in the evening.

In the reply on TripAdvisor, they wrote: “We have a policy of no tracksuits/cottons/jobby catchers in the bar in the evenings.

“Many bars in Edinburgh have the same policy.

“We work hard to cater for our clientele”.
