A pub named after World Cup winning Scot Rose Reilly has opened in Glasgow.
The Ayrshire-born forward played for the Italy women’s team when they became champions in the 1980s after she left Scotland to pursue a career in professional football.
The Rose Reilly pub on Albert Road in Govanhill opened its doors to customers on Tuesday on the site of the former Hampden Bar.
Situated near the site of the original Hampden Park and only 15 minutes away from the current national stadium, bosses will be hoping it becomes a favourite of the Tartan Army and supporters attending cup finals.
Reilly, who learned her trade playing for boys clubs in Kilmarnock on the condition she cut her hair short and called herself Ross, moved abroad in 1973 to pursue a professional career.
After a short spell in France she signed for ACF Milan in 1973 and played in Italy for the following 20 years with spells at several Serie A sides including Napoli, Lecce and Bari.
Despite earning ten caps for Scotland she was eventually banned by the SFA for moving abroad and changed allegiance to Italy in 1983.
She won 22 caps for the Azzuri and scored 13 goals.
She captained them to the Mundialato world championship in 1984 and scored in the 3-1 win over West Germany in the final.
The 62-year-old was inducted into the Scottish football hall of fame in 2007 and her achievements were recognised in the Queen’s honours list in 2020 when she was awarded an MBE.
