Pub’s apology after being unable to ‘honour any Mother’s Day bookings’

A pub apologised to customers for being unable to honour any Mother’s Day reservations.

Managers said the issue arose because the pub had recently been taken over, meaning staff were unable to honour any of the bookings made for yesterday, March 19.

Licensee James Kemp, who took over The World’s End in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire, three weeks ago, claimed details about pre-bookings made before his arrival and contact details for those customers had not been passed on to him.

At the same time he said the brewery associated with the pub had closed the kitchen for improvements, with Mr Kemp’s team unable to cook any food.

So he was forced to issue a statement via the pub’s Facebook page informing customers they would not be able to dine at the venue, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

The statement read: “We simply cannot cook in the kitchen and this isn’t great for anyone.

“We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused and that you are having to be made aware via Facebook but unfortunately as we don’t know who you are this seems to be the best and quickest solution.

“Food will start up again very soon when we have the kitchen up to scratch. So sorry Mothers/Mums.”

“We as the new licensees didn’t take any bookings at all but instead had the horrible job of issuing these statements,” added Mr Kemp.

People took to Nottinghamshire Live’s comments with one person writing: “To post a Facebook message the night before Mother’s Day is totally unacceptable”.

To which another reader replied: “Agree 100%. He knew Mother’s Day was coming up and, regardless of whether the old management passed the message on or not, surely they’d know people would have bookings already.

“The Facebook post could have been put up weeks ago.”
