Chelsea in 2021: Champions of Europe as Tuchel takes control

Christian Pulisic has named Mo Salah as the Premier League’s best player so far this term.

The Liverpool forward has been in scintillating form, scoring 22 times for the Reds as they look to regain their crown.

Salah’s efforts saw him mount a late charge for the Ballon d’Or, only to miss out to Lionel Messi.

Nevertheless the Egyptian, a PFA Player of the Year winner in 2018, has his sights firmly set on winning another Golden Boot.

His efforts are coming amid uncertainty over his long-term future at Anfield with his contract winding down, but Pulisic overlooked some of his own teammates to highlight Salah’s efforts.

He told Amazon Prime : “I think if you’re looking at our team there’s been some incredible performances, you look at Jorginho and N’Golo [Kante].

“But it’s hard to argue with [Mohamed] Salah and what he’s accomplished. He’s a top guy too.”

In terms of his toughest opponent, Pulisic turned to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star returned to the Premier League in the summer, albeit with varying success so far.

Nevertheless the 36-year-old retains a notable aura and Pulisic came up against Ronaldo when Chelsea drew with the Red Devils recently at Stamford Bridge.

The American added: “It’s hard to argue against Cristiano Ronaldo but there’s a lot of top players. He’s one of the best to do it but there’s so many.”

Pulisic’s Chelsea side have stuttered in recent weeks, dropping points on a regular basis which has seen them slip behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race.

Thomas Tuchel has seen his team win just three of their last eight which includes a defeat to West Ham.

Pulisic is looking to make himself a regular in an immensely competitive forward line as he teams up with the Blues boss for a second time following their spell together in Germany.

He said: “I’ve obviously played with him [Tuchel] quite a lot, first at Dortmund and now here. He’s built a really strong team here so it’s great.”

Pulisic is battling for a starting role with the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

On the hectic fixture schedule he added: “It seems to get busier and busier during the festive period which is always fun.

“It is tough to celebrate at times for us players but we do our best.”

Chelsea will play Aston Villa and Brighton next before a crunch clash with Liverpool in west London.
