There is a conspiracy to spoil the atmosphere of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh said, accusing the state chief minister of not doing much to curb this. The government must crackdown on the Khalistani elements, he stressed, adding that Khalistani slogans were never raised in his tenure.

Speaking about the cases of pro-Khalistan sloganeering in the state over the last few days, the former chief minister asked: “Can the chief minister not see this? What is his Home department doing on this whole matter?”

“The chief minister has the Home portfolio. He should look into these matters seriously. We all know why the consignments of weapons are being sent to Punjab through drones from Pakistan. This is a conspiracy to spoil the atmosphere of Punjab and I wonder what the chief minister of Punjab is doing after all,” he said.

The government needs to crack down on the issue of Khalistan, the Captain – who is now a BJP leader, told news agency ANI, adding, “Khalistani slogans weren’t raised during my tenure as I took strict steps. Law and order is a state subject. They (the state government) are not doing anything. The BJP will be in power in Punjab and the Center.”

Captain Amarinder Singh joined the BJP last month, after merging his Punjab Lok Congress with the party. He quit as chief minister right months before the 2022 Punjab elections. This was followed by his unceremonious exit from the party after over five decades of association and leadership.
