Qala Movie Review: A Visual Treat That Explores Psychological Theme Artistically – See Latest

Qala Movie Review- Directors & Makers 

If taking the films of Anvitaa Dutt for example Bulbbul and the newly released Qala, two beguilingly old-world Hindi films, she started her career as a dialogue writer and as a lyricist with Dharma and YRF.

Some of her old works are Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Tashan, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Luck, Dostana, Kambakkht Ishq, Badmaash Company, I Hate LUV Storys, Tees Maar Khan, Student of the Year just a few gems that line the trajectory of her early filmography.

With her recent films, we can see that she likes disappearing into the past with Rocco set decorations and tasteful music. In Qala, she beautifully explores the mental landscapes of the main characters and crafts a musical journey into the thoughts of a girl who resembles a cuckoo and is torn between expectations and reality, passion and talent. 

Qala Movie Review- Star Performances 

Qala is a vintage lyrical drama, which features strong performances starring Tripti Dimri, Babil Khan, and Swastika Mukherjee, offers an artistic depiction of pressing issues including childhood trauma, the challenges faced in mother-daughter bonds, and the ugly side of stardom.

Triptii Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee’s stunning key performances carry Qala. They dive deep into the psyche of two brave women who are equally driven and prone to vulnerability, delivering outstanding performances. 

 Babil Khan, who is making his movie debut here, is also given the opportunity to play a talented but unfortunate singer who is proud of his capabilities in a moving performance. 

Qala Movie- Final Verdict 

Qala is marked up by stirring lyrics and uplifting music which is a tragic tale of a singer which is worth admiring, thanks to a formidable Swastika Mukherjee and a confident debut from Babil Khan. 

The performance of Babil Khan reminds of his father, the brilliant and legendary actor, Late Irrfan Khan as is evident in the acting genre, and at the same time evident Babil is his own actor.

Whereas Tripti—who had a lot more to work with in Bulbbul—plays Qala as an undifferentiated bag of nerves. It’s a one-note rendition of a person with mental health issues, further intensified by the skittish dream sequences.
