Queen Elizabeth’s favourite cocktail – simple recipe is ‘incredibly alcoholic’

Queen Elizabeth, who died in September 2022, and her late mother Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, were united in their love for the same cocktail.

The mother-daughter duo both loved drinking gin and dubonnet, the very alcoholic cocktail which contains just two ingredients – gin and dubonnet.

Etiquette expert William Hanson explained how to make the “perfect” version of this alcoholic beverage.

He said on his podcast Help I Sexted My Boss: “Here’s how to make the perfect gin and dubonnet – a very royal drink favoured by the late Queen Mother and also Queen Elizabeth.

“First of all the type of glass you use – it’s a lowball tumbler because it’s not a fizzy drink.

“It needs to have a heavy bottom and ideally, if you can get one, a delicate rim.

“Lots of ice and a slice of lemon – or if you’re feeling slightly fruitier, you can put in a slice of orange.

“Now it’s one part gin and two parts dubonnet. Although, if you want to do the Savoy Cocktail Book measurements, then it would be equal parts.

“Please obviously drink this responsibly- it is an incredibly alcoholic drink. Give it a bit of a slush around to mix it and enjoy!”
