Ironic as it may be, in the most abusive reality show in Indian television, an Indian singer found sufficient fodder for the making of a romantic track. So moving was Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Ankit Gupta’s journey on Bigg Boss that Raahul Jatin found himself drawn to their relationship, and was egged on to create Tere liye, a celebration of their bond. “I watch the show as much as I can. There is something about them, and the way in which they interact with each other, that is pure. We rarely see couples or friends who share such a genuine emotion of love for each other. I would want to have something like that in my life,” says the singer, son of composer Jatin Pandit.
Even though Raahul hasn’t interacted with the duo in the past, he says he found it rather easy to create this piece. “While a musician may usually not like certain aspects of his song, and may want a thing or two changed, with this number, the creative process happened naturally. I simply saw their video and was moved to make it. I would love to see them perform this song in the finale of the show, or be part of a music video on it.” The telly duo featured as lovers on the show, Udaariyaan, before making their way to the 16th edition of the Salman Khan-hosted show. Gupta has cited their antagonistic opinions on the subject of marriage while establishing the reason behind their unwillingness to be in a romantic relationship.
Meanwhile, Raahul has been leveraging social media to make a name for himself in an industry that has favoured his father for years. Ask him if he seeks his advice on making an inroad, and he says, “The one thing that dad has told me is that not a lot of things are in our control. One needs to keep working and trying things, because you never know what will work, and when. He is a lot like that too. Even today, I see him exploring new things, and trying different things. However, there’s not as much discussion on music styles, as there is on simply making a good song.”
