We all know just how much Drake loves being courtside for the Toronto Raptors.
Whether he’s riling everyone up in a pivotal game against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2019, or loaning his jacket to announcer Jack Armstrong, Drake’s presence is a staple of the modern Toronto Raptors. Despite all that, he was absent in what was their most crucial game of the 2022-23 season.
Instead, he was at History performing a surprise set with Lil Wayne.
In the aftermath of the Raptors’ loss to the Chicago Bulls last night, Pat Boyle of CBS Sports Radio directly blamed Drake, saying that he could’ve potentially offered something to Diar DeRozan to get her to stop shrieking every time the Raptors went up to the free-throw line.
“That’s on Drake, really,” Boyle said. “If you don’t have Drake and if that doesn’t work the niceties of offering her things to make her stop shrieking, you get physical. You get her out.”
Boyle then quote tweeted CBS Sports Radio’s post and doubled down on his stance.
“The Raptors loss is on you for not incentivizing Diar DeRozan to be quiet during free throws,” he wrote.
Drake’s absence was felt across Scotiabank Arena as others noticed that former Raptor Charles Oakley sat in Drake’s seat while sporting the team’s OVO gear as well.
John Hollinger of The Athletic suggested that Drake should’ve been in attendance to shriek when the Bulls were at the line to make things even.
One Twitter user said Drake knew the Raptors were a middling team this year, which is why he opted to perform at Lil Wayne’s concert instead.
In the upcoming offseason, the Raptors will likely make changes after just falling short of the postseason. They’ve got decisions to make, including the fate of pending free agent Fred VanVleet.
