Rafael Fiziev’s relationship with opponent Brad Riddell won’t impact his approach at UFC Vegas 44.
UFC lightweight Rafael Fiziev will get his first taste of a co-main event at UFC Vegas 44 against his friend Brad Riddell, but he’s confident he’ll be able to put their relationship aside to compete at a high level.
It’s strictly business for Fiziev and Riddell, who trained together at Tiger Muay Thai gym in Thailand before both men signed with the UFC. Both fighters are on impressive winning streaks and are looking to emerge as real contenders in the lightweight division.
During his UFC Vegas 44 pre-fight press conference, Fiziev spoke about what went into the decision to battle Riddell.
“I figured why not? We’re helping each other make money,” Fiziev said. “After the fight, we’ll still be friends. Probably even better friends because men are fighting always are closer.”
“It won’t be weird I don’t think. The cage is my home, it’s like my kitchen. I come to cook something nice and when I come here, I love everything about it.”

Fiziev made a name for himself with his Fight of the Year contender against Bobby Green at UFC 265, winning the fight by a unanimous decision. He showcased his relentless approach on the feet into the final minutes of the fight.
Fiziev will face another tough test in Riddell, who has won seven fights in a row, including most recently against Drew Dober at UFC 263.
Friends often become enemies when they compete in the UFC octagon, but it sounds like Fiziev and Riddell will be able to keep their friendship intact after punching each other in the face at UFC Vegas 44.
