Raksha Bandhan Significance

The word Raksha Bandhan traces its origin from Sanskrit -Raksha means to guard and Bandhan means to tie a knot. The significance of Raksha Bandhan is rooted in the mythological era of Mahabharata. It is believed, Lord Krishna had accidentally cut his finger with his Sudarshan Chakra. when Draupadi saw this, she immediately tore a small piece from her saree and tied it over his finger to stop the bleeding.  On witnessing this beautiful gesture, Krishna promised to protect her from all evils forever. Later, he even fulfilled his promise when she faced humiliation at the Royal Court of Hastinapur after Pandavas gambled her away.

Similarly, this festival speaks about a bond between brother and sister to be there for each other and is a celebration of that unique sibling bond.
