Ralf Rangnick rings the changes at Man Utd with boss set to make second staff appointment

Ralf Rangnick is poised to overhaul the coaching set-up at Manchester United following his arrival as interim manager. The German took charge of his first game on the weekend and the club is now preparing to announce the appointment of two new faces, according to reports.

Rangnick took the reins until the end of the season at Old Trafford following the downfall of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 63-year-old picked up a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in his first match on Sunday and is now embarking on his first full week in the hot seat.

He is currently working alongside two of Solskjaer’s assistants, Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna, but Michael Carrick decided to leave the club after three games in temporary charge.

That set-up is about to change, however, with The Athletic reporting that Rangnick is about to bolster his backroom staff with some familiar faces.

According to The Athletic, Lense visited the club’s training ground on Monday and was introduced to the players, but he will not start working until his visa process is finalised.

The 46-year-old is another person Rangnick knows from his time working for Red Bull.

Lense joined RB Leipzig in 2015 and has also worked for fellow German clubs Dynamo Dresden and Schalke in recent years.

While the names were only leaked on Monday, the appointment of new staff who know Rangnick were expected after the new manager’s comments last week.

“I will obviously try to find one, two, maybe three people who can join us in the [next] one or two weeks, but due to the Brexit regulations it’s not too easy,” Ragnick said in his first press conference on Friday.

“Many of my former colleagues, no matter if it is video analysts or assistant coaches are in long-term contracts with big clubs so they are not available right now and we have to be a bit smart and clever and find the right people.

“I hope that we can get them in here in the next one or two weeks, but I cannot tell you any names.”

It is not yet known what job title Armas will take on at United, or what his arrival will mean for Phelan and McKenna, who are the most prominent members of the previous regime’s coaching staff to still be at the club.
