Rangers will play a friendly against German side Hamburg this summer as part of their preparations for the new season.

The Ibrox side have announced that they will welcome Hamburg to Glasgow for a game on Saturday July 22, with a 3pm kick-off.

Rangers have long-standing ties with Hamburg and revealed an official partnership in 2021.

The match will serve as a pre-season test for Michael Beale’s side before they bid to win the Premiership title, and take on the task of trying to qualify for the Champions League.

SV Hamburg are currently in Bundeliga 2 and hoping to earn promotion to the German top flight. The team currently sit in third place, one point behind second-placed Heidenheim with a game to play.

Rangers will end their season with the final Premiership game away to St Mirren on Saturday.

Manager Michael Beale is expected to oversee an extensive revamp of his squad this summer, with five experienced players already confirmed to leave.

Allan McGregor, Filip Helander, Scott Arfield, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all said their goodbyes to fans after the 2-2 draw with Hearts on Wednesday night.

Speaking about his plans for summer transfer business, Beale said: “We are nearly there, we have been waiting to get to this point. Without being disrespectful we needed energising and we will come back stronger.

“We aren’t that far away from where we want to be, we have five, six or seven players coming in.

“I think the boys who came in in January (Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin) gave us energy and the fans want more.”
