Manchester United defender Raphael Varane passed a late fitness test this morning in order to start for the Red Devils against rivals Liverpool.

The Frenchman has been in imperious form for the Red Devils this season, forming a formidable centre-back partnership with Lisandro Martinez.

The World Cup winner has been complaining of leg pain in recent days and United can ill-afford Varane to sustain an injury as they head into the final stage of the season.

But Varane underwent a late fitness test this morning and felt confident enough to start at Anfield.

At right-back, Diogo Dalot has been given the nod ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while Luke Shaw has returned from illness to start at left-back.

Antony is selected ahead of Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, with Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes making up the rest of the attack.

United are looking to keep their slim title hopes alive by winning at Anfield, which they haven’t done for over seven years.

Newcastle and Tottenham both lost on Saturday, giving Liverpool a chance to capitalise on dropped points in the hunt for the top four.
