Rapper fights million-dollar judgment over missing rented Bentley

The Migos rapper claims L.A.-based rental company Platinum Transportation Group (PML) was aware that it was Oriel Williams, the mother of one of his children, who actually rented and was using the US$177,000 vehicle for $600/day when it was stolen from her property, with Offset (a.k.a. Kiari Kendrell Cephus) simply paying the bill.

But when it went missing from a parking space outside of Cephus’ former partner’s gated community, PML put him on the hook. Rolling Stone obtained a copy of the written declaration in which the artist claims to have called the rental company “immediately” after learning that the luxury vehicle was missing.

“I was told by a PML representative that PML would report the car stolen to the authorities. I did not steal the car, and I reported the car missing to PML as soon as I was advised by Williams that the car could not be located. In or about July 2020, I was informed by PML that the car was reported stolen to the Los Angeles Police Department, and that they were investigating the theft of the car,” the declaration reads.

“Not hearing otherwise from PML or the Los Angeles Police Department in 2020 or thereafter, I assumed that the Bentley — which was very unique and which I believed was protected with OnStar or some other electronic detection device — had either been recovered, or that any loss had been covered by PML’s insurance.”

Cephus claims that PML failed to adequately serve him notice of the suit, sending it to a family address in Georgia, where he has never resided. It was his current wife’s (fellow rapper Cardi B) lawyer who spotted the suit in the L.A. County Superior Court System and brought it to his attention.

The issue will go in front of the courts again next month.
