The Raptors and Maple Leafs have added a land acknowledgment to pre-game proceedings at Scotiabank Arena, recognizing that the arena is on Indigenous lands.

Land acknowledgements, which recognize the original inhabitants of the land, have been done by centuries by Indigenous people and m any say doing so helps the reconciliation process.

The Canadian government made Sept. 30 a statutory holiday as the official National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It was formerly known as Orange Shirt Day.
