Between July 8 and 10, RCMP investigated a string of vehicle thefts in multiple communities. It began with a report of a fuel theft in Wynyard on July 8, which led to a patrol vehicle being rammed by a pickup truck suspected to be connected to the theft after officers stopped the vehicle behind it. The driver hit two other parked vehicles, and struck the police vehicle a second time, before driving away.

The truck was later located in Yorkton, where police were unable to stop it. It was found that night abandoned southeast of Dunleath. Police learned the truck had been reported stolen in Broadview on July 6, and its plate had been reported stolen from Springside on July 8.

Later that same night, RCMP received a report of the theft of a white SUV from a rural property outside Yorkton that may have been connected to the incidents earlier in the day.

On July 9, Kyle RCMP received a report about the theft of a black Ford F-150 pickup truck from a rural property in Tyner that also may have been connected to the July 8 incidents. On July 10, the white SUV stolen outside Yorkton was found abandoned in Eston.

During the investigation into those incidents, RCMP conducted a review to see if there were any related files, according to a Thursday news release. Analysts concluded there may be at least 23, which all took place between July 6 and 16 in central and southern Saskatchewan, Hanna, Alta. and Kelowna, B.C.
