The Boston Red Sox are close to securing their young star for the future.
Third baseman Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing a 11-year, $331 million contract extension, according to ESPN. The potential deal is pending physical. The expected extension will keep the 26-year-old star in Boston through the 2033 season.
The deal also includes a $20 million signing bonus.
Just a day before the two sides worked to finalize the long-term deal, it was reported that both parties were in agreement on a one-year, $17.5 million deal to avoid arbitration, according to ESPN. The one-year deal signaled that both sides were indeed having discussions of a long-term contract after a season filled with uncertainty if Devers would test the free agency market in the future.
Last season, Devers played in 141 games and appeared in his second All-Star Game. He slashed .295/.358/.521 and hit 27 homers. The slugger also recorded 88 RBI.
