Earlier this year, studio Remedy Entertainment revealed that it had both a spinoff and a sequel to its 2019 game Control in development. After months of silence, the studio has finally come out with a development update on both of these projects in a fiscal earnings call as reported by GameSpot. Both games remain in the early stages of development.
According to Remedy, the Control spinoff, which goes by the codename “Condor,” is currently in the proof-of-concept stage. The studio still needs “to work on a multitude of important game design elements and finalize the key pillars before moving the project to the next development phase.” As for the game itself, we know so far that it will feature four-player cooperative multiplayer as the focus. Remedy has remained tight-lipped on the game’s other aspects, so we’ll probably only learn about them once the developer officially announces it.
What about the sequel?
Meanwhile, the Control sequel, codenamed “Heron,” has not yet progressed beyond the concept phase. Remedy confirmed this as far back as May of this year, but that doesn’t mean the developers haven’t made meaningful progress on the project. On the contrary, the studio stated that the development team has steadily grown in size from the progress it has made with this upcoming sequel. Additionally, Remedy noted that “Heron” will have a sizeable budget, which only makes sense given its sequel status.
Remedy has also given development updates for a few of its other games in addition to its Control projects. “Vanguard,” the free-to-play co-op shooter being developed as part of a collaboration with Tencent, has stayed in its proof-of-concept stage since May, and its development team will not expand until next year. As for the much-anticipated Alan Wake 2, that will not stray from its initial 2023 release window, which will likely come as good news for fans.
