The annual July sumo tournament in Nagoya, Japan is heading into its final day and a new champion is slated to be crowned over the next few hours.
Sumo wrestlers are more than just rotund wrestlers as Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry learned the hard way about a year ago. Back in September, Curry and Klay Thompson met 45-time Emperor’s Cup winner and yokozuna Hakuho Sho at the NBA Japan Games.
Steph and Klay realized very quickly that sumo wrestlers are built differently. Despite taking off his shoes so that he was wearing only his socks, Hakuho was completely unmoved by both Warriors superstars despite their best efforts to simply move them.
It’s still funny even to this day to see Curry stretch and strain as though he’s trying to move a refrigerator by himself. Though in fairness, Hakuho weighed over 400 pounds.
And unlike a sumo wrestler, a refrigerator can’t push back.

Then again, even a record-setting 45 Emperor’s Cup wins won’t teach Hakuho Sho how to shoot 40-percent from three.
