Welp, both Entertainment Tonight and People have now reported that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have broken up after six years of dating—and there seems to be some confusion about whether they were engaged and/or married. Short answer: No. Not that literally anyone is aware of, at least!
And actually, Joe himself spoke about the never-ending engagement/marriage rumors last year during an interview for WSJ. Magazine‘s May issue, saying “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins. I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.”
He also previously told British Vogue (via People) “I’m aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people … but I really prefer to talk about work.”
According to Entertainment Tonight, Taylor and Joe broke up “a few weeks ago” and the split was amicable and “not dramatic.” As for why they parted ways, apparently “the relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows.”
Neither Taylor nor Joe have confirmed the split, but we’ll keep you updated if that changes (considering how private they were about their relationship, seems doubtful!).
