For those unfamiliar with its predecessor, the difficulty can take you by surprise. Your health and ammo are limited, yet the game pulls no punches, leading to very rewarding moments when a boss is finally defeated.

While a lot of the difficulty of Remnant comes from mastering the controls in combat, being prepared and knowing what you’re doing can help make your experience much easier. Here are some tricks and tips to help players get started with their adventure through Remnant 2.

Mod Your Weapons

While finding the right weapon to fit your play style is important, it’s equally important to find the right mod for whichever weapon you decide to use. Weapon mods are bonus abilities that operate on a cooldown, giving your weapon a unique ability to perform on top of simply firing.

Weapon mods are created using items dropped from bosses and can be easily swapped on and off your weapons. Try out different mod combinations to find out which ones work best for your play style and further build off of your Archetype.

14
Check Around Ward 13

The Player Walking Around Ward 13

When you first arrive in Ward 13, you’ll be tasked with walking around and meeting the people who will be helping you on your journey. Note where these people are, as their upgrades are vital to getting further in Remnant 2’s many worlds.

While many of the people in Ward 13 are introduced to you, there are many who aren’t. Almost everyone in Ward 13 offers you something, often being additional shops that sell unique items. Meet and check with everyone in Ward 13 to make sure you’re spending your scraps the right way.

13
Perfect Your Relic

Your relic is one of the most important tools in your arsenal. No matter your Archetype, your relic will be your go-to source of healing, with you being able to upgrade it and make it even more efficient.

The more basic upgrade will simply increase the amount of times you can use it. You can also switch out the starting relic with other ones found throughout the game, giving players additional bonuses beyond just getting healed.

12
Utilize Consumables

Status effects can be devastating, leaving you in a difficult boss battle fighting at a disadvantage. While some status effects are more frustrating to deal with than others, many can be cured with consumables.

When preparing for a difficult boss, be sure to bring additional consumables to provide you with buffs or ways to counter the boss’s effect. While your relic will get your HP full, use consumables to get rid of nasty status effects.

11
Prioritize Your Traits

A Players Trait Menu

Remnant 2 gives players many different traits to begin leveling up, with more being unlocked as they progress through the game. Trait points will be found while exploring, but just because you have the points doesn’t mean you should use them right away.

Figure out how you want to prioritize your character’s abilities and upgrade your traits when you know exactly what you want. It may sometimes make sense to save a few trait points until after you’ve found and unlocked a new trait.

10
Play With Friends

Multiple Players Charging Into A Temple

Remnant 2 is a multiplayer game allowing you to jump into a friend’s world and play co-op easily. While the game adjusts for this and will prepare for a second player, having someone else watching your back is always nice.

Remnant 2’s areas are wide open or crammed alleyways where enemies run at you from all angles, and a second player will help you not get surrounded. Each Archetype performs its own role, and having multiple players with different archetypes will help you tackle any situation.

9
Accept Defeat

Remnant 2 is a difficult game and doesn’t offer much of a penalty for death beyond having to start back from the previous checkpoint. Death is worked into the game’s mechanics, as the developers knew players would be dying often.

Accept your defeats and use them to learn how to do better on your next run. Death screens don’t say “Game Over” because death is sometimes needed to help players test out new tactics or a new strategy when trying to beat a boss. Accept that this game will be punishing, and don’t be discouraged when you die; just keep your head up and keep trying.

8
Master The Dodge

Remnant 2 doesn’t have much in terms of defense for your character. While your armor will help negate damage, and higher health will let you take a beating, these things alone aren’t enough to keep you from getting your health bar melted by a boss.

Dodging is a universal tool that helps you avoid most attacks in the game. Learning exactly how your character moves and the best way to dodge to avoid damage is a necessity in surviving. Take time against some of the easier enemies at the beginning of the game to figure out the best ways to dodge, and when it comes to bosses, take a few test runs simply dodging their unique attacks before fully trying to take them on.

7
Melee Combat Is King

Player Holding A Melee Weapon

Remnant’s difficulty will help players stick far away from enemies and wear them down with a gun before letting them get too close. While this is an effective strategy to keep your health up, you’ll sooner run out of bullets before the enemy runs out of bodies.

While melee combat may seem more dangerous, it is incredibly effective at dealing damage and conserving your ammo. Upgrading your melee weapon can make it incredibly effective at defeating weaker enemies and can make general exploration much easier.

6
Running May Be Your Best Option

The worlds of Remnant 2 are full of massive monsters that will quickly catch you off guard with powerful attacks. While there are sound effects to give you a slight warning for these enemies, it will often be too late as you’re already in their range for attacks.

While out exploring, never feel bad for turning tail and running from a massive monster. If it’s something you’ve never seen before, it is always a good idea to run away and prepare for what’s ahead now that you know. From a distance, you can also see how a new enemy acts, and can prepare a proper plan of attack.

5
Find The Perfect Weapon

The Bulldog Gun In Barbus' Shop

Remnant 2 will give players a wide range of weapons to use, each effective in their own way. After receiving your first gun in Ward 13, you’ll be able to buy more or find others throughout the world. As no one gun is perfect, players should try out each gun to try and find the gun to match their play style.

After finding a gun that you like, it can be upgraded to be much more effective, and your favorite gun can quickly become the best gun in your arsenal. Melee weapons also range greatly in attack speed and damage, so try out a few to figure out which one you can easily maximize your damage with.

4
Pick The Archetype For You

Hunter Archetype Selection

When starting Remnant 2, players can choose from four different archetypes, with one more available as a pre-order bonus. Each Archetype acts differently, getting perks and bonuses that significantly change their play style.

You can switch between each Archetype or create new characters to try and find the perfect Archetype for you. While any Archetype can use any weapon, some get additional bonuses for fighting from a distance or up close while also giving other perks to benefit their respective play style further.

3
Don’t Fear A Reset

The Campaign Reset Menu

After reaching a certain point in the game, you can reset your campaign. This will lose your progress in whatever world(s) and bosses you’ve gone through, but will give you the ability to farm easier enemies and bosses to get stronger.

Your weapon upgrades and character traits won’t reset, allowing you to reset the worlds and get stronger without any major progression penalties to your build. If you ever get stuck on a difficult boss and can’t see a way forward, reset your campaign and come back much more powerful one day.

2
Upgrade Your Weapons

Player Upgrading Their Weapon With Rigler

In Ward 13 will be the blacksmith named Rigler. Rigler is able to take the materials and scraps you find throughout the worlds to upgrade your guns and melee weapons. While this isn’t the only way to upgrade a weapon, it will simply upgrade the damage the weapon does.

The materials to upgrade your weapons will be constantly found as you play the game, so check in with Rigler each time you travel to Ward 13 to see if you can upgrade a weapon. As the game progresses, the enemies will get stronger and will take more bullets to kill. By staying on top of weapon upgrades, the difficulty scale throughout the game will be much less intense.

1
Explore And Collect

The different levels of Remnant 2 are procedurally generated, meaning each journey through a new world will be a new experience. Each world has a set objective for you to complete before moving on, but this barely will scratch the surface of all that is in the world.

Each world can be pretty substantial, full of enemies and loot to be found. Exploring a world thoroughly will help you find more materials to upgrade your character and weapons, making you much deadlier for the bosses ahead.
