There were flashes of brilliance this season for James Harden, but the end result was all too familiar. Another relatively early playoff exit accompanied by a poor performance in the final game of his team’s season.
From Houston to Brooklyn and now Philadelphia, Harden’s pursuit of an NBA championship has been foiled at every turn. He’s taken seemingly every route an NBA star can take: leading star doing it on his own, part of a superteam and then a super second option.
After a series of frustrating moves to different teams and less than ideal results, it appears that Harden could return to where he experienced the most success.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, Harden is expected to reunite with the Houston Rockets in free agency.
Harden left Houston in 2021 in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets, but the team is very different than the last time Harden was a member.
The Rockets decided to tear everything down and commit to a full rebuild, a move that has netted them multiple lottery picks, including the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
The Rockets are a very young team with little to no playoff experience, a stark contrast to the win-now, veteran-focused teams Harden has played for in the last number of years.
Going back to Houston would represent a huge challenge for Harden, but it appears it’s one he’s willing to deal with.
