The Los Angeles Lakers struggled before their season turned around thanks to trade deadline moves.
While out of the playoff picture, the Dallas Mavericks prepared to make an offer for LeBron James, who in Year 20, remained one of the best players in the league.
TNT and Bleacher Report insider Chris Haynes reported the news on Monday
“Sources: Mavs were preparing to make an offer for LeBron James last season when Lakers were spiraling. But Lakers made a string of trades near deadline that changed trajectory of their season.”
Although the Lakers’ late-season success changed things for the Mavericks, their pursuit of James could continue. All-star Kyrie Irving reportedly wants the team to explore trading for his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate and has been recruiting James to Dallas.
James, 38, is expected to return for his 21st NBA season. The four-time MVP averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists on 50 percent shooting from the field for the Lakers this season.
