The Resident Evil 4 remake has finally launched on PC and consoles worldwide, and the highly anticipated game marked another success for the survival-horror series by CAPCOM on Steam.

At the time of writing, the game is being played by 112,803 concurrent players according to Steam Database, making it the highest launch concurrent player count for the series on Steam, beating the previous record, which was held by Resident Evil Village with 106,631 concurrent players. For reference, the series’ launch numbers have been on the rise since the launch of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, which had a peak at launch of only 20,449 players. The Resident Evil 2 remake had a launch concurrent players peak of 74,227 which dropped slightly for the Resident Evil 3 remake, with 60,293 concurrent players.

The success the Resident Evil 4 remake is enjoying at launch is totally deserved, as it is a solid remake, although maybe a little too safe, as highlighted by Nathan in his review. This, along with some minor mechanical issues, prevents the remake from surpassing the original.

The fun in the Resident Evil 4 remake is just about starting, as additional content will be coming to the game very soon. Today, CAPCOM confirmed with the game’s launch trailer that the popular Mercenaries Mode will be released as free DLC on April 7th on all formats.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide. A playable demo is also available for download right now, allowing users to try out the Village combat sequence for free.
