Oslo: Emergency services attend incident at nightclub

A reveller at the Oslo nightclub shooting has told how she “played dead” in a bid to survive while another saw broken glass, blood and people lying injured as he escaped to safety.

Witness have told how they were at the popular London pub in the Norwegian capital when gunfire suddenly broke out quickly followed by panic as people tried to flee the building.

Police have so far confirmed that two people have been killed and three are seriously injured among 19 others that have been taken to hospital after the shooting began at around 1.15am this morning.

A suspect has been taken into custody but authorities believe that there could have been gunfire in three different locations including a small fast food restaurant and the London pub.

“He seemed very determined where he was shooting and when I realised how serious the situation was, I started running. Then there was a man bleeding on the ground,” she told media outlet VG.

She said how she initially tried to jump over a fence to safety but another woman told her to hide.

“There was a lady who pulled me down and said I had to hide and play dead,” she said, while adding that she hid behind a table which the gunman fired towards.

“When we did not see him anymore I got out, and I ran up the street. Then I heard him come around the corner and I got into a car there and hid.”

The club is popular with the gay community and with Pride this weekend she thinks that the attack could be connected.

“I am now dreading what might happen tomorrow when the parade itself happens,” she said.

Another person at the club, Morten Sommerstad, 41, also gave a vivid account of the horror as it unravelled at the bar.

“I didn’t really understand what was happening at first and then I saw it was serious. Someone said that there was shooting. People gathered together, there was total panic,” he told news outlet Dagbladet.

He then said he ran up some stairs at the club and tried to get out of a gate.

“I saw that there were people on the sidewalk and there was a lot of broken glass and blood. I was panicking so I run as fast as I could,” he continued, while explaining that there were people lying on the ground and he checked that they were okay.

“This is really terrible, I cannot believe that this is happening here in Oslo, it is unbelievable.”
