Ric Bucher has covered the NBA for a long, long time. And during a recent appearance on “The Herd,” the NBA analyst admitted he would be “surprised” if a Damian Lillard trade didn’t go down eventually.
“I would be surprised if it ultimately doesn’t happen,” Bucher said. “First of all, there’s just been too much innuendo. … When you start to hear the sides considering things it usually means the ball is rolling in that direction. I believe what’s going on right now is they’re playing a game of Chicken.”

“Damian doesn’t want to be the guy to say, ‘Alright, I’m out,’ because that would sort of undermine his whole brand and persona in Portland,” Bucher continued. “And Portland, meanwhile, does not want to say, ‘You know what, thanks Damian. We’re moving on.’ So right now, it’s the two pushing each other to see who’s going to announce that they’re getting divorced. Because that side is going to take the hit.”
Lillard has continuously said that he wants to play for a championship, but clearly the Trail Blazers aren’t in position to achieve that for him right now.
The Miami Heat seem to be the clear favorite to land Dame should he be traded. However, the seven-time All-Star is reportedly meeting with the team today to discuss the path forward.
