Richard Hammond admits The Grand Tour is ‘becoming difficult’ for team

Former Top Gear star Richard Hammond, 53, admitted finding destinations for The Grand Tour is “becoming difficult”.

On Friday’s This Morning, Richard chatted with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about the latest installment in the Amazon Prime Video special: The Grand Tour Eurocrash.

When Dermot asked him about the challenge of finding new places to venture to, Richard admitted the task was tricky.

He went on to explain the reason behind the group’s choice to explore “a road trip no one’s ever thought of doing”.

“Tell us about the new road trip – like, surely you’ve been everywhere?” Dermot pointed out.

“No that’s a good point, you raise a good point!” Richard agreed.

He continued: “Because we have, and it is becoming really difficult because half of the places, we’ve been, and half the places you can’t go, for whatever reason.

“So we decided let’s do something a bit off the wall… so we wanted to do the road trip that no one’s ever thought of doing, which is Gdańsk to Lake Bled.”

“So that’s the top of Poland down to where?” Dermot asked.

“All the way down, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia – right down to the coast,” Richard explained as Alison commented: “Wow.”

The series, comprised of the three former Top Gear presenters, has been a hit since it launched on Amazon Prime Video in 2016.

Richard’s co-star James also talked about the new series recently, where he admitted he faced a difficult time.

“One of us has a pretty terrible time,” he explained before adding: “The other two were basically on holiday.”

Speaking to Radio Times, he added: “There are a couple of small disasters and there’s one quite dramatic one but I shouldn’t tell you what it is yet.”

The special is one of four more episodes set to air until late 2024.

A controversy surrounding Jeremy’s remarks about Meghan Markle at the end of last year saw him axed from both Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour following episodes which have already been commissioned.

The Grand Tour: Eurocrash premieres on June 16 on Amazon Prime Video.
