New mum Rihanna has unveiled her adorable nine-month-old son, whose name is still unknown, as she opens up about motherhood and post-partum fashion.
Just days after her show-stopping Super Bowl performance, the 35-year-old singer and her partner A$AP posed together with their son as she talked about how her life has changed since she became a mum last May.
Riri, as her fans call her, looked gorgeous on the cover of the iconic magazine with her partner and baby with the family in matching black outfits.
Unfortunately, the cover photos had already been spoiled when a paparazzi snaps pictures of the family which resulted in Rihanna publishing her own images of her child to prevent the paparazzi from cashing in on her son.
“It’s the thing you never want to happen,” she says, recalling the moment.
“We get to decide as parents when and how we do that. End of story…. Throw me to the wolves. Do what you want with me. But he doesn’t have a say in any of this. We’ve been protecting him thus far and you don’t have any consent to be posting photos or selling photos of my child, a minor. Get the hell out of here with that.
“I just went straight into protective mode. Like there wasn’t even time for rage. [Rocky and me] drove up to the trailer area and we sat in the car chatting and working out how we move forward. As parents it just feels so icky, like a violation,” she said.
Rihanna also opened up about the stress many new parents go through when they arrive home from the hospital.
The Fenty Beauty CEO said she and A$AP didn’t have any help but did it all alone for the first few weeks.
“You walk into the hospital as a couple and leave as a family of three. It’s nuts. And oh, my gosh, those first days are insane. You don’t sleep. At all. Not even if you wanted to. We came home, cold turkey, had no one. It was just us as parents and our baby. Man, you’re a zombie for the most part,” she said.
“You’re just going through the motions, and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us? No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?”
Earlier this week, Rihanna copped backlash for performing at the Super Bowl despite speaking out against it in 2019.
She revealed to British Vogue what changed for her mind.
“There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes but it’s powerful to break those doors, and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level,” she said.
“Two Super Bowls back-to-back,” she says, referring to last year’s headliners, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige and Kendrick Lamar, “you know, representing the urban community, globally. It is powerful. It sends a really strong message.
“Of course, raising a young Black man is one of the scariest responsibilities in life. You’re like, ‘What am I leaving my kids to? This is the planet they’re gonna be living on?’ All of those things really start to hit differently.”
During her pregnancy, Rihanna redefined maternity wear, but after pregnancy, it was a whole different story.
“Dressing for pregnancy was such a piece of cake. But dressing in postpartum, what the f**k do you do? The week that I came home from the hospital – that was nothing but sweats and hoodies. But in the weeks after that, you don’t know what to put on. Everything is too small or too big.”
The first-time mum also hinted at possibly starting her own kids’ clothing line after admitting that she finds baby clothes boring for her son.
It’s worth noting, Rihanna hadn’t revealed her pregnancy to the publication, however, when asked if she is open to having more children her response was, “Listen, I’m down for whatever. My wish would be I would like to have more kids but whatever God wants for me, I’m here.”
