Rio Ferdinand has provided a fresh Premier League title prediction and has named who he thinks has been Arsenal’s Player of the Season for 2022-23.

The Gunners won 2-0 at third-placed Newcastle United on Sunday to go one point behind leaders Manchester City with three matches left.

Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand and are still the favourites to land the trophy having been champions in four of the last five seasons.

But Arsenal players have warned City that the north London club are ready to pounce if the current holders slip up in their final four top-flight fixtures.

Ferdinand, though, does not think Arsenal will win their first Premier League trophy in 19 years and will finish second behind City.

‘There’s a twist or two still left, I think,’ Ferdinand told his YouTube channel. ‘But I don’t think there will be enough for Arsenal to go and win it.

‘As much as I banter Arsenal, what they have done this season is nothing short of amazing.

‘You have given this juggernaut of a team (Man City) a run for the title for the whole of the season, Remarkable stuff.’

Ferdinand has named Martin Odegaard as Arsenal’s Player of the Season with the Gunners captain scoring in the win at Newcastle on Sunday.

It has been an impressive campaign for the 24-year-old Norway international midfielder, who has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in the top-flight.

‘Odegaard, your Player of the Season, came up trumps again,’ Ferdinand said about his performance at St James’ Park. ‘He did a few bits in that first-half which were different level.’

Ferdinand feels Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be delighted with back-to-back wins after the 4-1 defeat at City last month.

‘I think Mikel Arteta will have been so pleased with how Arsenal recovered after the game at the Etihad,’ he added. ‘You got dismantled, destroyed, dispatched. Morale was down.’
