No matter what the occasion, you can always rely on Rita Ora to deliver. I mean, that’s kind of why she won ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at GLAMOUR‘s Women of the Year awards. And tonight, the pop star-turned-fashion-icon pulled out all the stops for the British Fashion Awards.
Wearing a sheer gown by Nensi Dojaka (GLAMOUR‘s ‘Designer of the Year’, FYI), Rita amped up the look with a masterclass in mermaidcore beauty. Think bleached brows, wavy curls, and – wait for it – prosthetic gills.
Bleached brows have taken the fashion world by storm in 2022; they dominated at this year’s Met Gala and have been spotted on many a famous face, from Julia Fox to Kylie Jenner. The one thing we haven’t seen? Gills. And we’re not complaining.
You can take a look at Rita Ora’s beauty look for the British Fashion Awards here:
Let’s park the gills for a hot minute and draw our attention to those mermaid waves, which GLAMOUR‘s Beauty Editor, Elle Turner, defined earlier this year as “longer (think waist-length, wispy ends), wavier (think loosely crimped kinks rather than bouncy twirls)” than beach waves, adding that they “channel that just dipped texture of hair that’s been drenched in the sea then dried a little in the sun.”
In her interview with GLAMOUR earlier this year, Rita spoke candidly about the advice she’d give to any children who had a similar childhood to her – Rita has previously spoken about her parents fleeing Kosovo during the persecution of Albanians – saying, “I would tell them to never give up, believe in yourself, learn from the mistakes you make along the way and work hard. Because it will pay off and don’t waste energy comparing yourself to others – focus on slaying in your own lane.”
If there’s one person who knows about slaying in her own lane, it’s Rita.
