Riyad Mahrez pens emotional message after Manchester City exit

The Algerian will leave the Cityzens after a five-year stay with the Premier League club, and will join the Saudi outfit amid the ongoing influx of top European players in the league.

Riyad Mahrez

Mahrez has played 236 times for Man City and has netted 78 goals along with 59 assists. The Algeria international also won the treble last season as City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League last season.

And as he leaves the Premier League giants for a new adventure, Mahrez penned a heartfelt message to his former club on Friday.

“Today marks the end of an unforgettable chapter in my life, a five-year journey filled with countless memories. Before leaving, I wanted to thank the board, the manager and the staff for giving me the chance to prove myself at the highest level,” Mahrez said.

“To my teammates, both past and present. Sharing the pitch and the dressing room with you has been a pleasure. Together, we’ve broken countless records, achieved what seemed impossible and never stopped believing in ourselves during the challenging times we faced,” he added.

Mahrez also recalled the unforgettable last season at Man City and says he is proud of the unit. The 32-year-old will be playing for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League this season.

During his stay at the Etihad, Mahrez was a fan favourite and the player thanked the supporters.

“Today I leave but I will never forget any of you. I wish the very best for the Club in the future, until we meet again,” Mahrez concluded.

Mahrez will be joining the likes of Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino who also joined Al Ahli from Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.
