Rob Font looking at TJ Dillashaw or title shot if he can get past Jose Aldo.
UFC bantamweight contender Rob Font knows there’s plenty at stake for his upcoming fight with Jose Aldo at UFC Vegas 44.
This is Font’s second straight main event appearance after dominating former bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt earlier this year at UFC Vegas 27. He’s on the cusp of a possible title shot if he can get past Aldo, and is also interested in a matchup with TJ Dillashaw.
During his UFC Vegas 44 pre-fight press conference, Font laid out what could be next for him at 135 pounds.
“There are some options,” Font said. “Obviously [Aljamain Sterling] is still out, and there are rumors of the Yan fight happening again. If Aljamain isn’t healthy enough to fight, I think they strip him and Yan and I fight for the belt. But, there’s also Dillashaw out there. Cory Sandhagen is still a dangerous guy as well.”
“I’m not worried about matchmaking. I’m going to focus on this fight and go from there. Beating Aldo would be cool, but finishing him out be better.”
Rob Font and Jose Aldo could be another stand-up war
Font has won four straight since losing to Raphael Assuncao in 2018. His brutal finish over former title challenger Marlon Moraes last December propelled him into the bantamweight title picture.
Font will face an Aldo who is coming off arguably the best performance of his bantamweight tenure. After losing back-to-back fights against Petr Yan and Marlon Moraes, Aldo quickly got back on track against Marlon Vera and most notably, his striking clinic against Pedro Munhoz.
Font knows what options he has going forward, but he isn’t looking past a dangerous Aldo this weekend.
