England’s two head coaches, Brendon McCullum and Matthew Mott, have both come from overseas and Managing Director of Men’s Cricket Rob Key is keen to produce more homegrown coaches

Matthew Mott has been appointed England white ball coach after Managing Director of Men’s Cricket Rob Key decided to split the top jobs between red and white ball cricket.
Mott will work solely with England’s ODI and T20 sides, while New Zealand legend Brendon McCullum will take charge of the Test team. The appointments mean both of England’s coaches come from overseas, with Mott leaving his role as Australia women’s coach to take the job.
Key has spoken about his desire for England to produce more home-grown coaches, admitting earlier this month: “Let’s be honest, we are at this point where we have two coaching jobs and the majority of the names coming at you will be overseas coaches. That can’t be right.
“That is a fault of the system and we need to be sorting this out. Whenever I read [the media] you are always tipping overseas coaches and that is the fault of us at the ECB.
“You can’t be telling me that there are not good English coaches. We have this whole system in place and we have to make it an appealing job and an appealing process.
“There are so many people in our game that have great views and we want them in coaching. It can’t always be someone else’s fault. What do we need to do?”

And Key has now outlined his plans to try and rectify that, stating that Mott will help the ECB “invest in English coaches getting them as much experience as possible over the next few years”.
He said: “I’m confident that in Eoin Morgan and Matthew Mott, we have a formidable partnership that can push for more trophies in the coming years and that Matthew will be able to oversee any transition that team will go through in the future.
“Furthermore, Matthew will also help us invest in English coaches getting them as much experience as possible over the next few years.”
