Robert Snodgrass is set to be released from Hearts with immediate effect as the veteran midfielder holds talks with the Tynecastle club.

The 35-year-old former Scotland international signed for the Gorgie club in the summer and his current contract runs until the summer.

But STV understands he is now in discussions with the club over having the deal come to an end early after playing 25 games across all competitions.

It comes just after the departure of manager Robbie Neilson and head coach Lee McCulloch at the weekend.

The pair were relieved of their duties following a 3-0 home defeat to St Mirren that leaves them fourth in the table and a potential guaranteed group stage place slipping away.

Steven Naismith has been handed the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season and will take charge of the team in the Edinburgh Derby against Hibs on Saturday.

Snodgrass, who has also played for a string of clubs including Leeds United and West Ham, played 28 times for Scotland and scored seven goals.
