Roddy Ricch is showing support for his friend Gunna.
Weeks after Gunna turned himself in on Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charges, and days after a judge denied him bond and set a trial for Jan. 9, 2023, Roddy Ricch took to his Instagram Stories to extend thoughts and prayers.
“Free @gunna,” Roddy wrote over a black background. “We miss you out here champ. Mom’s praying 4 U.”
As Fox 5 Atlanta reported, Gunna reported not guilty on Monday on one count of allegedly violating Georgia racketeering law, as prosecutors claimed he was in a “command position” within YSL—in which other members are facing more serious charges, including Young Thug. The judge claimed the rapper was a “danger to witnesses and other folks tied to this.”
“His attorneys’ request for bond was postponed until early next month pending a motion by the state to have attorney Brian Steel disqualified as Williams’ counsel because he represents others named in the 56-count indictment,” writes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The 88-page RICO indictment against Thugger, Gunna, and YSL names 28 people in connection with charges including conspiracy to violate RICO, murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and more. Lyrics and videos from Young Thug and Gunna were mentioned in the indictment, with prosecutors highlighting lines about “snipers.”
Nick Cannon also recently opened up about his thoughts on the matter, calling the case “heartbreaking” in an interview with HotNewHipHop.
“Those brothers, one thing we’ve seen of them is their love for their people and their love for their community,” Cannon shared. “For someone to try to come after them because they feel like they’re ‘organized,’ you know what I mean? That shows that the system isn’t designed for us. The system isn’t for us. Ultimately, the truth will prevail.’”
