Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Spider Pirelli MT Celebrates Pirelli’s 150th Anniversary

Roger Dubuis’ long-term partnership with the Italian tire manufacturer, Pirelli, has entered a new phase. For several years, the two companies, which specialize in producing high-performance products, have created several watch bands using rubber inlays from certified Pirelli winning tires from real races.

Now, Roger Dubuis is helping Pirelli celebrate its 150th anniversary with the limited-edition Excalibur Spider Pirelli Monotourbillon (MT).

The watch was unveiled prior to the Singapore Grand Prix, which was held Sunday. Pirelli has an exclusive contract to supply all the tires for Formula 1 racing.

The new sporty timepiece features the watch brand’s Monotourbillon, placing the tourbillon at 7 o’clock. A power reserve indicator is positioned at 9 o’clock that is reminiscent of a car’s fuel gauge.

The case and bezel of the 45mm Excalibur Spider Pirelli MT are crafted from white Mineral Composite Fibre (MCF), a Roger Dubuis proprietary material. The watch brand says that through a process called Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), silica is engineered in a way that produces MCF. The finished product is 13% lighter than SMC carbon, while remaining quite sturdy.

For the first time Roger Dubuis produced a case, skeletonized movement, bracelet, and its astral signature, all in white. The watch brand says the color was “chosen specifically to stand out and honor the significance of Pirelli’s landmark occasion.”

The bezel, logo, and hour markers’ are topped with SuperLuminova. The Pirelli 150th anniversary logo on the strap also shines at night thanks to Superbiwinova.

The inner design of the strap displays are in the recognizable Pirelli Cinturato pattern, along with its motto, “power is nothing without control.”

The watch is powered by the RD508SQ manual wound movement comprising 265 components, which include a circular-grained main plate and bridges with rhodium plating trued-up anchor bridges. It has a 60-hour power reserve.

Finally, Roger Dubuis’ Quick Release System allows the owner to use multiple straps and to change them quickly. The three additional strap kits are in gold, silver and red in Pirelli’s distinctive curved lines, honoring its 150th anniversary.

The Excalibur Spider Pirelli MT is limited to eight pieces.
