India captain Rohit Sharma is now the fifth highest run-scorer for the country in international cricket, surpassing former skipper MS Dhoni.
The landmark for Rohit arrived during the first day of India’s second Test against West Indies in Port of Spain. With India leading the series 1-0 after winning the first match in Dominica, Rohit’s splendid performance gave the visitors a solid start.
Rohit scored 80 runs in 143 balls, comprising nine fours and two sixes.With this innings, he now boasts a total of 17,298 international runs in 443 appearances. Rohit’s record includes 44 centuries and 92 fifties in 463 innings, with his highest individual score being 264 runs, which came in an ODI.Rohit is now behind some of India’s batting legends in international cricket in the list.
The top four positions are held by Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs in 664 matches), Virat Kohli (25,548 runs in 500 matches), Rahul Dravid (24,208 runs in 509 matches) and Sourav Ganguly (18,575 runs in 424 matches).
As for MS Dhoni, whom Rohit overtook, the former captain scored 17,266 runs in 538 matches.
In 52 Test matches, Rohit has amassed 3,620 runs at an average of 46.41, with ten centuries and 15 fifties in 87 innings, his best score being 212 runs.

In ODIs, Rohit has played 243 matches, scoring 9,825 runs at an average of 48.64. He has registered 30 centuries and 48 fifties in 236 innings, and his highest score is an astounding 264 runs.
In T20Is, Rohit has featured in 148 matches, accumulating a total of 3,853 runs at an average of 30.82. His T20I record boasts four centuries and 29 fifties, with the best of 118 runs.
At the end of Day 1, India reached 288/4, with Kohli unbeaten at 87 runs and Ravindra Jadeja not out on 36.
