In the second Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago), Rohit became the fifth-highest run-scorer from India in international cricket.
MS Dhoni played 538 international matches in his career and amassed 17266 runs and Rohit – who made his international debut under the former’s captaincy – has surpassed the legendary wicketkeeper-batter.
Rohit (17281 runs) had surpassed Dhoni (17092) in the previous Test to become the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in international cricket. But the Jharkhand cricketer had played some ICC matches as well, and that is why he was ahead of Rohit with 17266 runs under his belt in 538 matches (India & ICC).
In the match against West Indies, Rohit also completed 2000 Test runs as an opener for India. He notched up a fine fifty against WI – against whom he made his Test debut in 2013.
