Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa: Rangnick reaction

It’s been a far from straightforward start to life at Manchester United for interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Not only has he been tasked with improving the team after a sluggish stint under former coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it’s become increasingly clear there are divisions in the Red Devils dressing room that may be tough to bridge.

However, with the Premier League set to kick into gear again this weekend, it feels imperative all at United begin pulling in the same direction as they battle to get back into the top four.

Rangnick is yet to get the best from Ronaldo

Ronaldo lifts lid on dressing room conversations

Cristiano Ronaldo has questioned how some players take criticism at United and has reflected on how he looked up to senior figures in his early days with the Red Devils.

Although he only rejoined United from Juventus in the summer, a figure of Ronaldo’s talent and self-belief was always likely to become an instant key figure behind the scenes.

Ronaldo has said while he tried to channel criticism in a positive way when he was a youngster, a lot of modern-day rising stars are not doing the same.

“I can remember when I was 18, 19, 20, some older players spoke to me but I put that as ‘Cristiano, you have to improve, they know more than you, they are more experienced than you, they passed through many bad moments’,” he said.

“But the other people do not accept that if you criticise them – I don’t say this generation of our players but in general, I have kids, I know.”

Pochettino doubts surface

Rangnick is reportedly doubtful over the suitability of Mauricio Pochettino to become the permanent United manager from the end of the season.

The German is expected to step aside in May, paving the way for the Red Devils to bring in a long-term option as boss.

Pochettino, who is currently in charge at PSG, has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Argentine did a fine job at Tottenham Hotspur during his time in the Premier League too, while his front-foot and high-intensity brand of football would go down well with United fans.

However, according to reports in France the Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is preferred by Rangnick, who is set to step into an advisory role at the end of the season.

United make Diallo decision

Manchester United have decided to send Amad Diallo out on loan this month.

The 19-year-old has struggled for minutes since signing from Atalanta and has been linked with a host of Championship clubs.

As it stands, Derby County – who are managed by Old Trafford legend Wayne Rooney – are said to be at the head of the chase for the winger.

United are thought to be open to any loan that would allow the teenager consistent minutes in a competitive league.

Derby would potentially be able to offer him that, as the Rams continue their fight for unlikely survival in the second tier.

There are high hopes at Old Trafford for Diallo, who United spent £19million on two years ago.
