Ronnie O’Sullivan Played In His Socks After Consulting Psychiatrist For Advice – Snooker Freaks

Ronnie O’Sullivan has enjoyed plenty of his success throughout his remarkable career, especially at the Crucible where he has won six World Championships. O’Sullivan has provided fans with a whole host of memories down the years, and not all are down to his impressive snooker talents.

One case in particular saw the Rocket don a unique outfit for his quest at the 2015 World Championship, after he opted to compete around the table without shoes and in his socks. After working alongside sports psychiatrist Steve Peters, the Englishman adopted a much more relaxed approach to his game.

So much so, he decided to get comfy while competing in his first round match against Craig Steadman, when taking to the famous Sheffield venue without his shoes on.

O’Sullivan began the match with a struggle after his new pair of shoes became extremely uncomfortable. As the clash moved into the seventh frame, his pain proved all too much as he decided to remove his shoes and play the clash in his socks.

Following the end of the frame, the six-time world champion saw the funny side of his wardrobe malfunction as he asked the crowd: “Has anybody got a size eight or nine?” After a short break O’Sullivan finally made his way back to the table, this time with footwear.

The Rocket was forced to borrow a pair of shoes from the tournament director Mike Ganley, which he sported for the final three frames of the session. The outfit switch didn’t seem to hinder arguably the greatest snooker player of all time though, as O’Sullivan went on to secure a 10-3 victory.

This year, O’Sullivan is competing with a complete outfit and has enjoyed a successful time in Sheffield so far. He kicked off his 2022 tournament with a 10-5 victory over David Gilbert, before knocking out Mark Allen in the last 16.

O’Sullivan is now just two wins away from securing a record-equalling seventh World Championship crown, after he dismantled Scot Stephen Maguire 13-5 in the quarter-final of the event on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rocket will now face either John Higgins or Jack Lisowski in the semi-finals as he hunts down a prized final spot this weekend.
