Ronnie O’Sullivan cannot see anyone matching his Triple Crown record for decades to come, or perhaps ever, having taken his tally to 21 this year.
The Triple Crown, sometimes known as snooker’s majors, are the World Championship, Masters and UK Championship, events that the Rocket has won seven times each.
His nearest rival in terms of Triple Crown wins is Stephen Hendry on 18, with Steve Davis finishing his career on 15 and then a big drop to John Higgins and Mark Selby on nine.
Current world number two Judd Trump has three, so it would take some doing for the 33-year-old to get anywhere near O’Sullivan, and the Rocket is confident no one on the planet right now will be challenging his record.
‘I don’t think there’s anyone alive right now who’s going to win 21 Triple Crown titles,’ O’Sullivan told Eurosport for Mundo Deportivo. ‘The ranking title record is going to go away because there are so many more events to play in. But I don’t think my top records are in jeopardy.’
O’Sullivan is currently leading the way in ranking title wins, with 39, but the likes of Trump certainly have a much better chance of catching him on that front, with the Ace currently on 23.
The Rocket has started the season a little slowly, but he says that events outside of the Triple Crown are not of great concern to him, with his focus on the three biggest tournaments, although he does enjoy trips to the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland Open.
‘The UK Championship, the Masters and obviously the World Championship,’ he continued. ‘Everything I do is always prepared to be ready for one of those three tournaments.
‘Then I really like the Home Nations events and getting the opportunity to go to large venues in them.’
As always, O’Sullivan is keen to enjoy things outside of snooker this season and he is hoping to continue his television career after the documentary that was filmed of him during the World Championship this year.
The Rocket’s love of running is well known and he wants to head to Africa to follow his passion, hinting that there could be a documentary made at the same time.
‘There are shows I have in mind and I would like to go to Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda to film something related to running,’ he said.
‘I would like to run a half marathon. I know that to run a marathon I need to train correctly. There are a couple of production companies that I have already worked with that want to do things with me. I would also like to do something in the cars.’
