Rosalía returns this week with the official video for “Saoko,” the second single of her much-anticipated studio album Motomami.
Directed by Valentin Petit, the visual depicts the Spanish artist taking over the city streets alongside her all-women biker gang. The video is said to perfectly reflect the spirit of Motomami, which consists of themes like grit, strength, vulnerability, fierce femininity, and bravery.
“If you notice, the lyrics revolve around the same concept: transformation,” Rosalía said in a statement. “Each and every phrase is an image of transformation. Celebrating transformation, celebrating change. Celebrating that you are always yourself even though you are in constant transformation or even that you are you more than ever at the very moment you are changing.”
“Saoko” also pays homage to classic reggaeton, as it samples Daddy Yankee and Wisin’s 2004 hit “Saoco.” Rosalía said the genre was a huge inspiration for her upcoming album, which also includes a touch of jazz.
You can watch the “Saoko” music video via YouTube above and stream the song now on all major platforms. Motomami—the follow-up to her 2018 project El Mal Querer—is scheduled to arrive on March 18. The album will include the previously released cut “La Fama,” featuring the Weeknd.
