Roy Keane has backed Manchester United to get past Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last 16 showdown.
United’s hopes of challenging for the Premier League have long disappeared this season but the club are still fighting on two fronts – in Europe and the FA Cup.
Ralf Rangnick’s side were paired with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s hopes of defending that title however are fading with his side 14 points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid.
United meanwhile have allowed Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial to leave the club during the January window with Keane believing the squad may benefit from those departures.
And with form improving under the interim boss, Keane believes United will book their place in the quarter-finals.
‘I think some things have settled down, they have moved one or two players on and that will help the group,’ Keane told ITV.
‘I fancy United over two legs against Atletico. They seem to have just lost their way a little bit in getting into that top four so it could be a good few months ahead for Man United.’
United head to the Spanish for the first leg against Atletico on 23 February with the return leg taking place at Old Trafford on 15 March.
United have not progressed past the Champions League last 16 stage since 2019.
